Initially, Khalid is a medical student who is chosen by ancient Egyptian deities, owing to his pharaonic lineage, to become the next bearer of the Helm of Fate. Notably, Khalid became the first Muslim character in DC Comics to star in a solo series. The introduction of Khalid was part of DC Comics' initiative to promote diversity and revitalize the Doctor Fate character during the DCYou era. Khalid is the eighth individual to assume the mantle of Doctor Fate and is a person of Egyptian and White American heritage, adhering to the Muslim faith. Created by Paul Levitz and artist Sonny Liew, the character first appeared in Aquaman: Convergence #2 in July 2015.
